My wife and I got in one last camping trip this past weekend by going to the Great Canadian Barn Dance with a group of friends. As we were kicking up our heels (or tripping over our left feet) I realized how much we were having by getting out on the dance floor and deciding we were going to have fun. I noticed a few people sitting around watching the festivities and enjoying themselves watching the festivities. Others seem to be less than thrilled, almost as if they were waiting for someone to get them involved. I have learned that you need to make the decision yourself how involved you are going to be in your life, or if you are going to watch life happen from the sidelines. I was thinking that this will be a life philosophy worth imparting to students. What you get out of life really depends on how much you put into life. I have really learned the past few years how much better life can be when you make the decision to live life on your own terms, and not be content to watch it go by. I hope to be able to teach students to go ahead and life life fully and not worry about what others might think. This reminds me of a quote I saw a few years back: "Don't worry about what others think. They don't do it very often." Imagine our schools full of children brimming with self-confidence as they live and learn throughout life as they want it to happen. And imagine how much better our society will be.
